Prosciutto and Cheese Pull Apart Sliders

These easy Homemade Pull Apart Prosciutto and Cheese sliders are such a fun and easy appetizer for the whole family (Or friends) to enjoy— Baked on a sheet pan, these sliders are very easy to make and you will enjoy them in no time!

Soft dinner rolls stuffed with Sun dried tomato and chipotle pepper sauce, 3 different types of cheese, tomatoes and of course Prosciutto. Each slider is cheesy on the inside and crunchy on the outside and for the cherry on top, melted butter with Italian seasoning. Serve these sliders right out of the oven for a simple appetizer that everyone will love.

The Ingredients and Idea:

Summer is obviously the season that people want easy recipes that take no time to make and don’t require too many ingredients. People rather be outside, spend time with families and for some reason summer is all about finger food. At first I was just going to make a sandwich and split it in half but then I went to trader joes and saw their Hawaiian Rolls the minute I walked inside and then there was the lightbulb…Ive seen pull apart sliders all over the inter web but never really wanted to make them but I try to make something at least once even if I don’t make it again. I never really have a full idea before I make a dish, I just kind of wing it when I go to the grocery store.

Now that I knew I was going to make the sliders, I needed cheese…melty cheese so I made my way over to the cheese section and after 10 minutes of starring at the different cheeses, I decided on provolone, muenster and mozzarella. I could of been a little fancier but like I mentioned, I wanted to keep it as simple as possible.

Now that the cheese was out of the way, I made my way tot eh deli meats, at first I thought to myself that I use prosciutto wayyy too much so maybe I should pick something else, then I thought bacon or even pork belly but both of those choices would of been too heavy and I would of had to cook them prior to adding them to the sandwich so that was a big NO—again, trying to make this as easy as possible so guess what I ended up picking…Prosciutto, HA!

As I started prepping to make the sliders, I came across a jar of sun dried tomatoes that I had to use because it was sitting in the fridge for some time (they weren’t expired yet) so I took out the jar and started thinking about how I can incorporate these into the sandwiches. Since I was already going to use tomato slices, I didn’t want to have sun dried tomatoes as well as the fresh tomatoes whole inside the sliders so the next best option was some type of spread.

The Spread:

Sun dried tomatoes, chipotle peppers in adobo, basil, rosemary and garlic all make up this spread. At least the base of it. When I tasted it, it was lacking what something sweet to tone down the tanginess and bitterness from the peppers so I used a small amount of brown sugar and balsamic along with salt and pepper to balance the taste, that seemed to to the job. Now, I highly encourage you to set aside some of the base spread and use it for other dishes like pastas, pizza sauce or anything else that will come to mind and only add the balsamic and brown sugar to the amount that you’re using just for the sliders. Trust me on this.

After you blend all the ingredients together you get this beautiful orange/ red spread that smells incredible and this is the only part of the sliders that will require some work (but not really).

Step By Step Details:

So the first step is to make the sauce: Get yourself a jar of sun dried tomatoes, a can of chipotle peppers in adobo ( ORRRRR you can use red pepper slices) a few sprigs of rosemary, fresh basil and garlic. Blend these ingredients in a food processor and VOILA, you got the spread. Now, you’re obviously not going to use all the spread and thats ok because I HIGHLY encourage you to use it for other recipes and don’t worry I have a few coming up so ill give you some ideas.

Back to the spread, leave the amount of the spread that you will be using for the sliders and add either brown sugar, balsamic vinegar or both ( add one at a time ) along with salt and blend it again. Adjust the taste to your liking.

After the “hard” part is done its time to Assemble the sliders.

You need Soft loaf of pull part sweet dinner rolls. I used the Trader Joes Hawaiian Rolls but everyone knows the Kings Hawaiian Rolls which are available EVERYWHERE. Use whichever rolls you’d like to but make sure they’re sweet rolls. You can also use my recipe for rolls but then you would have to make them and that will take time and we don’t have that type of time in the summer, as I mentioned were going the easy route.

Slice the rolls in half lengthwise, keeping all the rolls intact, layer on softened butter and some Italian seasoning , then the sauce, the muenster, provolone, mozzarella, then the prosciutto, tomatoes, Fresh Basil and freshly cracked pepper. Spread the sun dried tomato sauce on the top part of the rolls and press it down. Melt the Butter that you used for the bottom part of the rolls, add Italian seasoning to it and spread it over the top of the rolls before baking. Cover the rolls with foil then Place them in the oven at 400 for about 15-20 minutes or until the cheese has melted and then you’re done.

Ingredients

Sun Dried Tomato and Pepper Sauce
  • 7 oz can chipotle peppers in adobo OR roasted red pepper
  • 8 oz jar sun-dried tomatoes
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • fresh basil (about 10 leaves)
  • 3-5 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Sliders
  • package (12 count) dinner rolls
  • 1/2 cup sun dried tomato spread
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 6 oz prosciutto
  • Fresh Basil leaves
  • 4-5 slices muenster cheese
  • 4-5 slices whole milk mozzarella cheese
  • 4-5 slices provolone cheese
  • 5 tablespoons butter (unsalted)
  • 1-2 tablespoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400° F.
  2. Make the sauce by blending all the ingredients (minus the brown sugar and balsamic) in a food processor. Remove all but 1/2 cup of the spread from the food processor then add the balsamic and brown sugar. blend until it comes together.
  3. Place the bottom half of the dinner rolls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the softened butter over the bottom half of the roll then sprinkle some of the Italian seasoning. Next, spread the sun dried tomato sauce over the butter. Layer on the different cheese, deli meats, sliced tomatoes and fresh basil. Spread the sauce on the top part of the rolls then place it on top.
  4. Melt the remaining butter In a small bowl, mix together with the talian seasoning. Spread the butter over the top of the rolls then cover the rolls with tin foil and bake 10-15 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking another 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
  5. Brush with any remaining garlic butter and serve immediately.
